Vale
Vale lodge at golden hour among Sierra pines

Carson Pass, California · 7,820 ft

A lodge in the high Sierra

Twelve rooms, a shared table, and the trail out the door. Timber, granite, and the last of the light.

The house

Built for weather, not for a photograph

Vale sits just off Silver Fork Road, a short gravel turn from the pass. The lodge is timber and stone, twelve rooms, a kitchen that cooks one dinner. We keep the porch light on and the rest of the valley dark.

Guests come to walk, to soak, to sleep at altitude. We do not invent a program around that. The trail is marked. The tubs are hot. Breakfast starts at half-six, whether you asked or not.

The long table at Vale, set for dinner

The table

One seating. Bread that was dough that morning.
